Repetitive Strain Injury
There are many different causes and forms of repetitive strain injury, or ‘RSI’. Examples of repetitive strain injury types include vibration white finger, carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis.
Symptoms of repetitive strain injury (RSI)
The symptoms of repetitive strain injury can range from discomfort when carrying out the repetitive task which has caused the injury, to more severe cases where the sufferer can no longer carry out their job due to the pain from their RSI.
Repetitive strain injury is thought to affect up to two thirds of office workers where the causes of RSI are usually simple repetitive movements like typing without wrist support.
In many cases, working conditions such as bad ergonomics and keyboards and mice being used without support in offices can be addressed to help prevent RSI. These measures may alleviate symptoms which are already present or at least create an environment where symptoms do not worsen. Certain exercises are also thought to help prevent and treat the symptoms of RSI.
While the symptoms of repetitive strain injury are usually not too serious, and will tend to cease when the activity is not being carried out, in some cases RSI can be much more serious, and it is in these cases that it might be sensible to claim RSI compensation.
How to claim RSI compensation
Claiming RSI compensation is not always easy as you will need to show your injury was caused at work, as opposed to while typing at home or using a BlackBerry or iPhone while travelling. However, when RSI is seriously affecting your life, making a claim can be a very good idea, and it will not cost you anything to make the claim.
