Asbestosis

Asbestosis claims

This section gives an overview of asbestosis, including information on its causes, as well as issues related to living with asbestosis and how to go about making asbestosis claims. Asbestosis is often an industrial disease, where an employer can be shown to have been negligent in failing to safeguard against employee exposure to asbestos.

What is asbestosis?

Asbestosis is a disease caused by long-term exposure to asbestos, where the lungs become aggravated and inflamed as a result of asbestos fibres in the air. It is different to mesothelioma, which is a form of asbestos-related cancer, although the symptoms can be similar for both conditions. Causes of asbestosis are usually related to occupational exposure to asbestos.

Living with asbestosis is not easy as sufferers will generally experience problems such as shortness of breath and chest pain. If the disease has occurred as a result of working conditions, asbestosis claims can help ease any financial difficulties caused by the condition.

Why are asbestosis claims necessary?

When someone suffers from asbestosis, it can seriously affect their everyday health.  Breathing problems which are associated with asbestosis can make it difficult to continue to work in any physically demanding environment.

Because of this, asbestosis may mean limited job opportunities for the sufferer, and compensation will help to recoup those losses. Asbestosis sufferers who were exposed to asbestos because of their employer's negligence are entitled to claim for compensation. Asbestosis claims itself may prevent other people being affected in the future, as the employer will be forced to make changes to working conditions to safeguard workers.

Please note, because the symptoms of asbestosis can appear months or even years after exposure, you may still be eligible to claim asbestosis compensation even if you first recognised you had the condition within the last three years.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibres. Claiming compensation can help relieve any financial pressure associated with living with the condition.
